As August, the peak month of the summer holiday season, gets underway, a large number of Moroccans living abroad are arriving in Morocco to spend their summer vacations with their families and reconnect with their homeland. This annual influx leads to a significant increase in traffic at the Kingdom’s ports, airports and border crossings, where extensive measures are in place to ensure a smooth and welcoming arrival.
In this context, the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity continues implementing Operation Marhaba 2026, which was launched in June under the Effective Presidency of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Over the years, the initiative has become one of Morocco’s largest seasonal assistance and reception programs dedicated to members of the Moroccan community living abroad.
Launched in 2001 under the High Royal Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Operation Marhaba reflects the King’s continued commitment to Moroccans living abroad and the Kingdom’s determination to strengthen the bonds that unite the Moroccan diaspora with their homeland. Every year, the operation stands out for the quality of its services and the close coordination among the institutions involved.
The 2026 edition brings together security and customs authorities, public administrations, maritime and air transport operators, as well as the social workers, healthcare professionals and volunteers of the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity. Working in close coordination, they provide guidance, assistance and support to travelers throughout their journey to Morocco.
The Foundation operates reception areas at the Kingdom’s main ports, airports and border crossings, in addition to assistance centers in several European countries, particularly Spain, France and Italy. These facilities provide social, medical and administrative assistance, orientation services and rapid intervention in emergency or humanitarian situations, ensuring that travelers receive appropriate support whenever needed.
As traveler numbers reach their highest levels during August, organizational and logistical measures are further reinforced to facilitate entry procedures, reduce waiting times and ensure the smooth movement of passengers and vehicles. This coordinated effort reflects Morocco’s high level of preparedness and efficiency in managing one of the largest annual mobility operations in the Mediterranean region.
Beyond its logistical dimension, Operation Marhaba carries a strong humanitarian and symbolic significance. It embodies Morocco’s enduring commitment to its citizens living abroad and conveys a message of welcome, solidarity and national cohesion. The initiative also recognizes the vital contribution of Moroccans living overseas to the country’s economic, social and cultural development.
Over the years, Operation Marhaba has established itself as an international benchmark in the reception and assistance of expatriate communities, thanks to the quality of its services, the efficiency of its organization and the strong mobilization of all participating institutions.
More than a seasonal operation, Operation Marhaba 2026 represents a tangible expression of the values of solidarity, unity and proximity that connect Morocco with its citizens across the world. It also reaffirms the High Royal Solicitude of His Majesty King Mohammed VI toward Moroccans living abroad, recognizing their essential role in the Kingdom’s present and future.
