On the occasion of the National Day of Moroccans Living Abroad (MRE), celebrated annually on August 10, the Department in charge of Moroccans Living Abroad, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, will mark the 2026 edition under the theme: “Moroccans Living Abroad in the Service of Morocco’s 2030 Development Projects.”
This celebration reflects the special attention that His Majesty King Mohammed VI continues to devote to Moroccan citizens living abroad. Established by the Sovereign in 2003, the National Day serves as an annual opportunity to strengthen the ties between the Moroccan diaspora and their homeland, while highlighting their aspirations, achievements, and contributions to the Kingdom’s development, particularly in light of current challenges and transformations.
As in previous years, and to encourage the active participation of Moroccans residing abroad who are spending their summer holidays in the Kingdom, celebrations will be organized across Morocco’s prefectures and provinces in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior.
The 2026 edition takes place at a time when Morocco is accelerating the implementation of its major strategic projects leading up to 2030. These initiatives include the development of infrastructure, the attraction of investment, the acceleration of digital transformation, the energy transition, sustainable water resource management, and the modernization of public services. In addition, preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup represent an exceptional opportunity to further boost the Kingdom’s economic, social, and regional development.
The celebration also aims to showcase the valuable expertise and achievements of Moroccans living abroad in fields such as science, business, technology, culture, and many others. It will also provide an opportunity to address the challenges they face, strengthen communication and support mechanisms, and encourage their greater involvement in Morocco’s national development projects and the successful implementation of the Kingdom’s strategic agenda for 2030.
