Rabat – Special
The Moroccan people from Tangier to Lagouira, along with Moroccans worldwide, commemorate on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the anniversary of “Unity Day.” This new national holiday, added to the eternal records of the Nation, embodies the highest meanings of loyalty and historical cohesion between the Alawite Throne and the Moroccan people in the journey of completing territorial integrity and preserving national achievements.
This national occasion forms a new bond connecting the glories of the national struggle for independence with the building of today’s Morocco, which is witnessing an unprecedented revolution in development and diplomacy under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, heal him, grant him health, and preserve him as a crown over the head of this vast country.

The rationale for this sovereign decision is based on clear strategic pillars contained in the Royal Court’s communique on the occasion at the time:
- Documenting and Historicizing the Turning Point: Commemorating the major and decisive turning point in the path of the first national cause; namely, the final confirmation of the Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.
- Strategic and International Dimension: Highlighting the crucial developments confirmed by UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which considered the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the realistic, serious, and credible solution to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
- The Royal Pardon Initiative: Establishing this day as one of the high national occasions on which His Majesty the King grants his Royal Pardon to a number of his people’s sons and daughters.
A New Policy for Royal Appointments and Speeches
Alongside its symbolic and national dimensions and multi-message contexts, the Royal decision brought a high-level organizational restructuring for major national occasions and official speeches addressed to the Nation. It was decided to limit the High Royal Speech in the future to two official occasions:
- The Speech of the glorious Throne Day.
- The opening speech of the first session of the legislative year in Parliament.
While His Majesty the King, in his capacity as Amir Al-Mu’minin (Commander of the Faithful) and Head of State, retains his high discretion to address his people at any time he deems appropriate, this new organization reflects the Kingdom’s desire to focus strategic Royal messages and elevate “Unity Day” to a unifying occasion to express adherence to national sanctities.
Great Diplomatic Momentum and Multi-Level Developmental Renaissance
This high national occasion comes in an exceptional political and diplomatic context characterized by successive victories. The Kingdom is witnessing consecutive international recognitions of the Moroccan Sahara, confirming the superiority of the Moroccan approach on the international stage and the widespread support for the Moroccan thesis. This clearly confirms that the right is fundamentally Moroccan, responding to all the machinations and billions spent by the neighboring country, Algeria, to oppose Morocco’s completion of its territorial integrity, in a continuation of the historical and geographical complex that affects and continues to affect the El Mouradia Palace mafia.

On the ground, Unity Day coincides with a comprehensive developmental and economic boom in the southern provinces of the Kingdom. Through the specific development model, the cities of the Moroccan Sahara, such as Laayoune and Dakhla, have transformed into promising economic and investment hubs, connecting Morocco to its African depth through massive structural projects; most notably the Dakhla Atlantic Port and advanced infrastructure projects, alongside huge investments and financial allocations designated for the south of the Kingdom so that all citizens of this nation benefit from its capabilities and riches, for the good of the country and its people.
Today’s commemoration of Unity Day clearly reflects that the battle to complete territorial integrity, fought with pride by the fathers and ancestors, continues today through the fronts of sustainable development and proactive diplomacy to build a strong, united, and forward-looking Morocco. From the anniversary of the eternal Green March, which was a milestone in the history of Morocco and its south, to “Unity Day,” the reality remains unchanged: Morocco is in its Sahara, and the Sahara is in its Morocco.
