Moroccan Pop Star Saad Lamjarred Granted Provisional Release from Prison

Saad Lamjarred, a Moroccan pop star, has been granted provisional release and will be released from prison this Thursday. He was sentenced by the Paris Assize Court on February 24th to six years in prison for aggravated rape in the case against Frenchwoman Laura P.

Bachir Abdou, Saad Lamjarred’s father, announced that his son will be released from prison on Thursday, April 20th and will celebrate Eid Al-Fitr with his family. Saad Lamjarred has been incarcerated in a French prison since the verdict on February 24th, but his two lawyers, Jean-Marc Fedida and Thierry Herzog, filed a request for provisional release on his behalf.

In a statement, Bachir Abdou expressed his happiness at his son’s return and thanked the Moroccan and Arab public for the messages of love and support he had received from them during this difficult period, noting that they had comforted him in his crisis and sorrow for his son.

It should be noted that Saad Lamjarred was sentenced on Friday, February 24th to six years in prison for aggravated rape by the Paris Assize Court. He was found guilty of raping and beating Laura P., who was 20 years old at the time, in a Parisian palace room on the night of October 25th-26th, 2016. In aggravating circumstances, he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. However, he was acquitted of the charge of aggravated voluntary violence. He will be registered in the national register of sexual offenders.
