inDrive Morocco reaffirms its commitment to safety and cooperation with authorities

The recent tragedy that cost the life of a partner driver using the inDrive platform in Morocco has sparked strong emotions across the country and reignited discussions around safety in the mobility platform sector. As the investigation led by the authorities has led to the arrest of several suspects, inDrive Morocco reviews the safety measures deployed on its platform, its cooperation with the competent authorities, and its vision for the evolution of the sector. In a radio interview, Fatine Bennani Meziane, General Manager of inDrive Morocco, stated: “This tragedy has deeply shaken us. As soon as the arrest was made, we were allowed to contact the family of the deceased. We were thus able to express our sincere condolences and show our support.”Fatine Bennani Meziane also personally reached out to Yassine’s family to present her condolences and express her support in this difficult time. In this case, inDrive was requested by the competent authorities and provided the requested information in accordance with the applicable legislation and procedures.Ms. Bennani Meziane also emphasized that inDrive has put in place several mechanisms to deal with the most serious situations that may occur during a trip. In case of serious injury, loss of life, or other major incidents occurring during a trip, the users concerned can benefit from internal insurance set up by the platform. inDrive also works directly with the people concerned or their families and can provide financial assistance in accordance with its internal policies. While these mechanisms exist to deal with exceptional situations, inDrive’s priority remains prevention. The safety of partner drivers and users relies on a combination of technological measures, continuous improvement of platform tools, and cooperation with the competent authorities. When asked about the safety measures deployed by the platform, Ms. Bennani Meziane recalled that safety is a priority for inDrive. The platform has gradually strengthened its protection mechanisms over the past few years, including identity verification by facial recognition (“liveness check”) for passengers, deployed in five major cities in the Kingdom. To our knowledge, inDrive is today the only mobility platform operating in Morocco to offer this functionality for passengers. In this case, the information from this functionality was made available to the competent authorities in accordance with the applicable procedures and contributed to the investigation. This functionality is part of a broader set of reporting and verification mechanisms aimed at strengthening the safety of users and partner drivers.Ms. Bennani Meziane also recalled that safety is a collective issue that requires the involvement of all stakeholders. According to her, platforms have a role to play alongside the authorities to strengthen trust and protection of users. In this perspective, inDrive reaffirms its commitment to continue its investments in safety, technology, and cooperation with all stakeholders to contribute to safer mobility for all.
