The WeCasablanca Festival, a key cultural event in the white city, returns this year with an eclectic and innovative program, celebrating the cultural and artistic diversity of Moroccan musical repertoire. From July 18 to 20, 2024, Casablanca will resonate with rock, urban, and fusion music, as well as Amazigh, Gnaoui, and Aïta music, to reinforce the city’s identity on the stages of the Toro space and the Place des Nations Unies. As a cosmopolitan metropolis open to the world, Casablanca supports local and national talents, showcasing both traditional and contemporary artistic effervescence, the youth, and the people of Casablanca. This year, WeCasablanca promises unforgettable moments of sharing and discovery.
We-Rock
Casablanca, with its open spirit and cultural vibrancy, has always been a fertile ground for avant-garde artistic movements. Rock music, in particular, has found a receptive and passionate audience in Casablanca. On July 18 at the Toro space, the WeCasablanca Festival will host the group Meteor Airlines, blending alternative rock with traditional sounds, and recently awarded the “Best Artistic Practices Awards” in the Mediterranean region at the Creact4Med ceremony in Barcelona. The festival will also feature the pioneering Moroccan rock group Hoba Hoba Spirit, forerunners of Hayha Music, known for their unique mix of fusion, reggae, and traditional Moroccan influences, offering a captivating performance that resonates with the soul of Casablanca.
We-Fusion
WeCasablanca will also celebrate fusion music and its diverse influences. On July 19, the Toro space will delight all curious and music lovers by showcasing the overflowing creativity of versatile artists Jubantouja and Mehdi Qamoum. Blending musical genres, they push musical and cultural boundaries, enchanting their audience with influences from jazz, blues, indie rock, and traditional influences, reinventing classic sounds.
We-Urban
WeCasablanca will also please urban music enthusiasts by featuring Tagne, a talented artist who has established himself as a headliner in the Moroccan rap scene, and Farid Ghannam, known for his unique voice and his penchant for transcending musical genres such as Gnaoua, pop, and R&B. They will honor the city of Casablanca and are sure to make the audience dance.
We-Amazigh
Casablanca residents will also be able to enjoy the rich Amazigh culture with Badr Ouabi, a talented and inspiring musician who combines his Middle Atlas Amazigh roots with contemporary forms of expression, and Aïcha Tachenouit, a talented Amazigh singer and dancer. Casablanca will celebrate the cultural identity and heritage of the Amazigh people, dear to Moroccans. On July 18, it will be an opportunity to experience an evening of ancestral rhythms and poetic songs of Amazigh culture.
We-Gnaoui
A program dedicated to Gnaoua music will be offered to celebrate the sacred chants of this beautiful tradition, listed as part of the world’s intangible cultural heritage. Artists such as Asmaa Hamzaoui and Hamid El Kasri embody this Gnaoui cultural richness, bringing their unique talents to the modern stage while respecting the deep roots of this Moroccan tradition. The WeCasablanca Festival highlights this music, both spiritual and contemporary, offering the audience an immersion into the vibrant soul of Gnaoua music.
We-Aïta
WeCasablanca also celebrates the tradition and heritage of Aïta, which finds a deep echo in Casablanca, where Aïta has been nurtured for a century. Here, the chikhates and chioukhs reinvent and preserve this art for future generations. Aïta, with its ancestral chants and captivating rhythms, is a living expression of Moroccan popular culture, conveying stories, emotions, and values through generations. Siham El Mesfiouia and Said Senhaji will offer the audience an authentic experience, rich in emotions and poetry.
We-Electro
Electro music enthusiasts will be delighted by performances from DJ Omary, Sound Of Mint, and DJ MKA on the Place des Nations Unies stage on July 18, 19, and 20 respectively, as well as D33P SOUL on the Toro space stage for the three nights of the festival. These DJs skillfully blend traditional and contemporary rhythms to create dynamic and energetic sets. VJ Kalamour will also offer immersive visual experiences, highlighting all components of Moroccan cultural identity and drawing inspiration from contemporary digital arts. He will be on the Toro space stage for the three nights of the festival.
