Omar Alami, 13, a Young Voice Shaping the World of Tomorrow

At just thirteen years old, Omar Alami already embodies a new generation of globally minded youth—engaged, articulate and driven by a clear sense of responsibility toward the future. Born in 2012 in Annecy, France, and rooted in Moroccan, French and Italian heritage, Omar’s journey reflects a life shaped by cultural diversity, international education and early civic awareness.

Raised between Geneva, Brussels, Rabat and now Washington, DC, Omar has grown up navigating different societies and educational systems. Today, he is a ninth-grade student at the British International School of Washington, where he studies alongside peers from around the world. This international environment has reinforced his belief that identity is not confined to geography, but built through dialogue, openness and shared values.

Civic engagement from an early age

One of the pillars of Omar’s commitment is his involvement in the Parliament of Children of Morocco, an institution dedicated to introducing young Moroccans to democratic principles, dialogue and civic participation. Through debates, workshops and training sessions, Omar has learned how to express ideas respectfully and contribute to discussions on real social issues affecting children.

A defining moment came in November 2024, when he took part in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Parliament of Children in Rabat, held under the presidency of Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Meryem. For Omar, this experience reinforced his conviction that children’s voices matter and deserve a place in national and international conversations.

Youth entrepreneurship and innovation

Beyond institutional engagement, Omar has translated his ideas into concrete initiatives. Shortly after moving to Washington, he co-founded Entrepreneurial Young Leaders (EYL), a non-profit initiative aimed at introducing children to entrepreneurship, leadership and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. His objective is simple yet ambitious: to show that creativity, innovation and leadership can begin in childhood.

In December 2025, EYL organized its first workshop at Google’s offices in Washington, bringing together young students from American schools to explore how technology and entrepreneurship can drive positive social change. The initiative marked a symbolic step, demonstrating how youth-led projects can connect education, innovation and impact.

Culture, nutrition and sustainability

Another flagship initiative is OmarLou, an educational project that combines nutrition, culture and sustainability. Inspired by traditional Moroccan amlou, the natural spread made from almonds, argan oil and honey, the project seeks to raise awareness among children about healthy eating and the risks of ultra-processed foods.

OmarLou also carries a broader environmental and social message: protecting the argan tree from the effects of climate change and supporting women’s cooperatives producing argan oil in Morocco. The official launch is scheduled for May 10, 2026, on the occasion of the International Day of the Argan Tree.

A strong commitment to climate justice

Climate justice stands at the core of Omar’s vision. As a youth advisor to the Young Climate Justice (2024–2026)project, funded by the European Research Council and led by University College Cork in Ireland, he collaborates with children from twelve countries. Together, they advocate for children’s rights in the context of climate change and environmental decision-making.

For Omar, climate change is not an abstract issue. It is a matter of justice, especially for children in vulnerable communities who are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation.

Looking ahead with purpose

Despite his many commitments, Omar remains first and foremost a student, passionate about football, science and medicine. Football teaches him teamwork, discipline and respect, while his aspiration to become a cardiologist reflects a desire to serve others through knowledge and care.

Looking to the future, Omar hopes to become a credible international voice for children—promoting cooperation between nations, protecting the planet and fostering meaningful dialogue across cultures. Inspired by young figures of leadership in Morocco, he aspires to contribute to projects that defend children’s rights, strengthen education and support inclusive, green development.

Through his journey, Omar Alami illustrates a powerful reality: the leaders of tomorrow are already among us. They are young, informed and determined to act—not someday, but now.
