Akhannouch Holds Talks with EU Commissioner to Bolster Morocco-EU Strategic Partnership

Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch held a meeting in Brussels on Wednesday with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Várhelyi, in the presence of Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

This meeting aimed to discuss the ongoing implementation of the Joint Political Declaration established in June 2019, which introduced the ‘Euro-Moroccan Partnership for Shared Prosperity’. The discussions also underscored the continued vigor of the Morocco-European Union (EU) relationship.

The discussions reaffirmed the central role of the multidimensional partnership between Morocco and the EU and their shared determination to bolster it further across various key domains, particularly in the face of current challenges.

The deliberations encompassed a wide range of aspects of this partnership, which serves as a cornerstone of the EU’s Neighborhood Policy and has undergone substantial growth in recent years.

Notable accomplishments were reviewed, including the pioneering Green Partnership, marking the first of its kind forged between the EU and a southern neighbor, as well as developments in the Digital Partnership, aviation, fisheries, research, and trade.

This high-level meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the Global Gateway forum, underpins the routine communication between Moroccan and European officials, with a clear objective to enhance the strategic partnership between Rabat and Brussels. These discussions emphasize the mutual commitment to foster economic and political cooperation and reinforce ties between the two entities.
