The Paris 2024 Olympic Games mark a historic milestone for Morocco, celebrating both its achievements and the richness of its cultural heritage. Morocco stands out with skateboarder Aya Asaqas, supported by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban Sports, who made history as the first African and Arab woman to qualify for the skateboarding events.To celebrate Aya Asaqas’ qualification to represent our country proudly at the Olympic Games, and as part of the promotion of this important sporting achievement, the Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban and Similar Sports, in partnership with the artist and fashion designer Samira Haddouchi, is pleased to present customized skateboards. These unique works of art, adorned with traditional Moroccan motifs such as zellij and caftan, are exhibited from July 27 to August 12 at La Villette, as part of an event organized by the French Federation of Urban Sports. This unprecedented collaboration between art and sport perfectly embodies the Moroccan identity, blending tradition and modernity.
The Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban and Similar Sports has been dedicated to developing skateboarding and promoting among children and youth for several years. It is actively committed to promoting and structuring this discipline through national and international competitions, sports camps, and training courses in judging and coaching. Skateboarding, which combines technical skill and creativity, is a rapidly growing urban discipline in Morocco. The Federation’s efforts aim to provide young skateboarders with the necessary equipment and resources to refine their skills and improve their physical and technical performance, contributing to the development of skateboarding as an Olympic sport. Thanks to this commitment and ongoing efforts, Moroccan skateboarding is gradually making its mark on the world stage, as evidenced by the qualification of athlete Aya Asaqas for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.At 21, Moroccan Aya Asaqas has made headlines as the first African skateboarder to qualify for the Olympics. After excelling in qualifiers in the United Arab Emirates, China, and Hungary, she has made history for Moroccan and African sports. Her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics serves as a symbol of determination and inspiration for young generations across the continent.
The President of the Federation. stated: “We firmly believe in the potential of our young athletes and strive to provide them with the best conditions to excel. We will continue to support this discipline and strengthen our infrastructure to enable other talents to shine on the international stage. Our ambition is to reinforce Morocco’s position in international competitions and ensure a strong and consistent presence in urban sports worldwide.”

Samira Haddouchi, a renowned Moroccan artist and designer, created exclusive skateboards for Aya Asaqas featuring traditional Moroccan patterns such as zellige and caftans.These boards are not just sports equipment but works of art that illustrate the fusion of tradition and innovation. Known for her elegant and modern designs, Samira has provided a unique platform to celebrate Morocco’s rich cultural heritage globally. Each board pays tribute to Morocco’s artisanal heritage, incorporating aesthetic elements that narrate the country’s history and traditions while embodying the contemporary and dynamic spirit of skateboarding. Samira Haddouchi expressed, “Watching Aya perform with my creations will be an incredible experience. I am immensely proud to contribute to this Olympic journey and showcase our culture to the world. Collaborating with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban and Similar Sports has been crucial in promoting our art and supporting our athletes internationally.”

About the Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban and Similar Sports
The Royal Moroccan Federation of Urban Sports and Similar Sports is a sports association aimed at promoting urban sports and all related disciplines throughout the kingdom to represent Morocco internationally. Established in 2017 under the supervision of the Ministry in charge of the sports sector, its mission is to develop, organize, and structure urban sports in Morocco to enhance their growth. In coordination with the Moroccan National Olympic Committee, the Federation organizes various events and competitions to encourage youth participation in urban sports such as skateboarding. About Samira Haddouchi
Samira Haddouchi is a prominent figure in Moroccan fashion, renowned for her creations that blend tradition and modernity. Born in Tangier, she graduated from the École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne and studied fashion design and modeling at the École Internationale de Mode, Arts et Design of Collège LaSalle. Her work, characterized by the use of luxurious materials and innovative lines, has gained international recognition. She has showcased her designs at prestigious Fashion Weeks, including Paris, Milan, London, Dubai, Egypt, Florida, South America (Chile), and Africa (Angola). Her creations have been worn by notable stars such as Whitney Houston and Majda Roumi, among many others. Samira Haddouchi continues to promote Moroccan fashion globally, merging contemporary elements with traditional Moroccan garments while preserving the authenticity of the Moroccan caftan, of which she is a prominent ambassador.
