Bouznika Beach awarded Blue Flag for the 17th time

Madiha Dakir

The Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection has awarded the Blue Flag to Bouznika Beach for the seventeenth consecutive year as part of its “Clean Beaches 2023” program. A ceremony was planned to commemorate the event.

Governor of Benslimane Province Samir Yazidi, representatives from the Bouznika Municipality, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, members of civil society, and officials from the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) were present at the ceremony.

Bouznika Beach has received this Eco-label for the seventeenth consecutive year since 2007, due to the participation of ONEE in the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection’s “Clean Beaches” program. The focus of the 2023 edition is the battle against plastic waste in the world’s oceans and seas.

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) awards the “Blue Flag” label to distinguish coastal sites that satisfy the criteria for quality and safety and serve as an international benchmark for beach quality.

The Office has installed sanitary blocks, entertainment areas, first aid centers, outdoor showers, water fountains, and a space for persons with special needs (pagodas, tables, umbrellas, etc.) on the beach as part of the development and maintenance of facilities.

As part of its environmental protection efforts, ONEE also guarantees the daily cleaning of the beach and its surroundings, provides selective waste sorting bins along the shoreline, and cleans the SaikouK Wadi.

In terms of awareness and education for sustainable development, the Office has devised a comprehensive climate change and ocean plastic pollution awareness program.

This program seeks to educate beachgoers about the significance of environmental protection and instill in them ecologically responsible daily habits.
