Who is Morocco’s new second-in-command of the armed forces?

Major General Mohammed Berrid, a decorated veteran with over 43 years of experience in the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), has been appointed as Inspector General of FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone by King Mohammed VI.

Born in 1955, Major General Berrid graduated from the Royal Military Academy (Armored) and went on to earn a Master in National Defense from the Collège Interarmées de Défense in France.

He has held numerous positions of responsibility throughout his distinguished career, including commanding the 3rd and 4th Royal Tank Regiments and serving as a staff officer in the field of training and force employment.

Most recently, Major General Berrid has been heading the 3rd Office of the General Staff of FAR since 2014, and now assumes his new role as Inspector General of FAR and Commander of the Southern Zone.

In addition to his impressive military career, Major General Berrid is also a family man, married with four children. He has been awarded several high decorations, including the medal of “Officer of the Order of the Throne”.

His appointment comes as Lieutenant General Belkhir El Farouk steps down from the position, having been decorated with the Grand Cordon of the Wissam Al Arch by the King in recognition of his distinguished career and services to the Throne and the Homeland.

Major General Berrid’s extensive experience and decorated career make him a valuable addition to the leadership of FAR and the defense of the nation.
