The event began with a speech by Mr. Mohamed Jabbari, Consul General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Bilbao, who expressed his delight at this gathering that embodies the spirit of belonging and patriotism. In his speech, he emphasized that “the anniversaries of the Green March and Independence Day mark key moments of national struggle and resilience for liberation and the completion of territorial integrity under the leadership of the late Sultan Mohammed V, the liberator, and King Hassan II, the architect of modern Morocco, may God rest their souls.”
He added: “These glorious milestones in our nation’s history are an occasion to renew pride in Moroccans’ resilience, political acumen, and great sacrifices for their homeland. I would also like to commend the high national values demonstrated by the Moroccan diaspora, their dedication to upholding the nation’s constants, defending its vital causes, and their constructive contribution to the development journey under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him.”
The Consul highlighted the royal directives issued by His Majesty King Mohammed VI on the occasion of the Green March anniversary to restructure institutions concerned with Moroccans abroad, notably the Council of the Moroccan Community and the Mohammedan Foundation for Moroccans Living Abroad, aimed at improving services for this segment and enhancing its contribution to the national development project.
He further explained that organizing this friendly football tournament, which brought together members of the Moroccan community in northern Spain, reflects the values of openness, coexistence, and cultural exchange that this community embodies, showcasing its success in achieving positive integration and projecting a bright image of Morocco.
In addition to the sporting matches, the celebrations included cultural and artistic activities, featuring performances inspired by authentic Moroccan heritage. Traditional Moroccan dishes showcasing the richness and diversity of Moroccan cuisine were also served, adding a festive and unique flavor to the event.
