From November 24th to December 2nd, the 20th installment of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) is set to illuminate the global stage, spotlighting the diverse and dynamic world of Moroccan cinema.
In a recent interview with L’Economiste, Ali Hajji, the General Coordinator of FIFM, expressed excitement about the extensive representation of national cinema, featuring a compelling array of 15 films. This robust showcase marks a significant moment for Moroccan filmmakers, showcasing their talents on an international platform.
The upcoming festival will witness a historic occasion as two esteemed Moroccan directors, Asmae El Moudir and Kamal Lazraq, premiere their latest works in competition. This marks only the third time in FIFM’s twenty-year history that two native directors will vie for recognition in the same edition, adding an extra layer of significance to this year’s event.
Ali Hajji also highlighted FIFM’s longstanding reputation for attracting some of the most prominent figures in the cinematic world since its inception in 2001. The festival has consistently drawn renowned personalities to serve on juries, partake in master classes, and receive prestigious career tributes—a distinction that sets it apart from many other festivals.
As the 20th FIFM unfolds, it promises an exciting convergence of established global cinema luminaries and emerging Moroccan directors, poised to make a lasting impact on the international film festival circuit. With a compelling blend of celebrated names and rising stars, the festival continues to solidify its position as a key player in the cinematic realm.
